As a follower of Christ, I think one of the most heart-breaking phrases I’ve heard people say is something along the lines of: “Oh that’s your truth” or “I’m happy you found your truth”. It’s an outward reflection of that person’s dismissive attitude toward the gospel message. It’s heart-breaking alone to talk with someone who genuinely believes that there are many truths and it’s very alarming how much that thought-process has spread in our culture. New age beliefs have swept across the western world in the last several decades and has made its way into something that looks Christian.

What Are All These “Truths”?

The idea seems to stem from a new age belief that there are many paths to Heaven. That worshiping the god you chose or even believing that you are a god will still get you to the same place. Humans have been thinking this way since ancient times, each culture would create their own gods to worship. However, it’s now morphed from carving wooden or stone idols, to less obvious things like; believing you’re a good person or that karma dictates the life someone will have after this one. There are so many “truths” out there, that it’s no wonder people are so lost and confused. This mixing of Judeo-Christian theology with pagan religious beliefs has created a cocktail of confusion as evil as anything out there.

There Has to Be Several Paths, Right?

Romans 3:10-11 tells us that no one seeks God, not even one. Yet we know that He exists because we can see His work — which is all of creation (Romans 1:19-20). Because of a blindness and deafness to the actual Truth, many fall into believing in other things. Some believe in karma, some believe in other gods, some believe that they are a god, and others believe in just being “good”. There are even professing Christians who disregard the Bible and get their doctrine from human teaching and Christian music alone. But surely, regardless of your beliefs, as long as you adhere to the rules you’ve made up or of those someone else made up, then you are in, right? Jesus tells us in Matthew 7:13-14 that the path is difficult and the gate narrow that leads to life (Heaven), and few will find it. He made it very clear that the path to Heaven is not a wide one, that there are not many paths but only one (John 14:6, John 10:9).

Well That’s Your Truth

If I’ve had enough experience with this, then after reading that last section, I believe your response is probably the same as the title of this section. Look I don’t mean to poke fun at anyone, I write this entirely out of love. I want nothing else than for the unsaved person reading this to find the Truth in Jesus Christ. There is nothing in it for me, my salvation doesn’t rely upon helping others get saved and I’m not asking for your money or membership to anything. I’m hoping to help open your heart to Christ. Think about what you believe and ask yourself these questions:

  • What evidence is there for my beliefs?
  • What books or writings can I rely on for my beliefs?
  • Who is the originator or founder of my religion?
  • According to my beliefs, what do I have to do to make it to Heaven?

Only you know the answers to the four questions above, but I can tell you my answers.

  • What evidence is there for my beliefs? Creation is proof of God (Psalms 19:1, Romans 1:19-20). Look all around you, the universe, the blue sky, plants, animals, all the parts that make up your complex body. There is no way all this fell into place by chance. Books don’t write themselves and buildings don’t build themselves — there is a creator.
  • What books or writings can I rely on for my beliefs? The Bible is my one and single source of truth (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:21). It has been proven time and time again, by history and archaeology to be historically accurate. It’s not a story book, it’s a collection of God-breathed, historical documents which tell us about God, our history with Him and how we can find salvation in Him.
  • Who is the originator or founder of my religion? Jesus Christ is the originator of my religion (Colossians 1:15-16, Matthew 28:18-20). Not someone asking for money, not someone holding me captive, not someone setting a list of man-made rules and regulations over my life. God Himself is the founder of my faith, there is no middleman involved.
  • According to my beliefs, what do I have to do to make it to Heaven? It’s very simple, I don’t have to do anything apart from repenting and putting all my faith in Christ — He did all the work for me (1 Corinthians 15:1-4, 1 Peter 2:24, Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 10:8-9). No other religion has that, you’re always asked to do something. God paid the price for us and we only need to accept His gift whole-heartedly.

Don’t Let Past Experiences Ruin It For You

I know there are probably some of you who grew up in a Christian or Roman Catholic household and maybe went to church. Perhaps you were turned off by the man-made things, the confession of sin to a priest for forgiveness, saying 10 “hail Mary” prayers when you “messed up”, maybe you were required to give more money for certain blessings, or maybe you were a victim of mental, physical or sexual abuse. Please understand this, man has poisoned religion through selfishness, greed and evil. Jesus Christ is love, pure and true love and you don’t need anyone else to mediate that relationship with Him. If you seek Him, you will find Him. He loves you so much, that He took your sin punishment and died on the cross for YOU (Romans 5:8). Don’t let what man has trashed ruin your chance to find the real and only Truth; Truth that is clear and simple; Truth that is filled with hope and love that can be found nowhere else. Don’t let this world tell you who Jesus is and what he stands for. I challenge you to get out that Bible that’s collecting dust or download a Bible app on your phone. Start with reading the Gospel of John and find out who Jesus truly is and how He can change your life forever.
