When A Nation Turns Away From Jesus

The moral situation in the United States, North America, Europe and the greater world is crumbling. The United States in particular is a nation founded upon Biblical principles and a nation that has been greatly blessed by God. What’s going on now is evidence of a nation that has moved away from Jesus and quite possibly into judgment.

What Romans 1 Says About God

Romans 1:18

Apostle Paul, guided by the Holy Spirit, tells us that God brings wrath upon those who seek to live according to lies and who participate and encourage sinful and evil behavior. Who, in their love of sin, willfully suppress their innate knowledge of God.

Romans 1:19-20

Paul then goes on to tell us that the evidence for God is obvious because God has made it so. The evidence that He has provided since the beginning of time is His creation. Therefore we’re warned in verse twenty that every single person is without an excuse. Nobody on judgment day will be able to justify why they rejected the free gift of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. Creation shows a Creator and the Bible tells us about that Creator.

What Romans 1 Says About Mankind

Romans 1:21-23

The heart of mankind is wicked on its own and all throughout human history, mankind has displayed a willful ignorance to God and instead has turned to worshiping idols. When a person chooses to separate themself from Jesus, their thoughts and behavior continues to grow more wicked the longer and further away they are from Him. The idols differ from person to person and culture to culture, but all boil down to the desires of the wicked human heart, which are rooted in a worship of one or a combination of the following: money, pride/power and sex.

What Happens To Those Who Keep Rejecting Jesus And Go About In Their Sins?

As people continue to distance themselves further and further from Jesus, eventually He gives them over to the desires of their hearts in what appears to be three phases. Each phase marking a willful and continual rejection of God.

Judgment Phase #1

These two verses state that the first phase of God’s judgment is removing any barriers and allowing them to succumb to the wicked desires of their hearts, which quite often manifests into sexual immoral behavior. Think of this as a rise of sex in the culture, pornography, fornication, rape, adultery, and a normalization of perverse sexual interactions such as orgies, incest and sodomy.

Judgment Phase #2

In the next phase, God allows them to keep living according to their own desires and through their sexual immorality springs up homosexuality. If you’ve ever struggled with an addiction to pornography, it’s likely that if it went on long enough you started to get bored and moved on to viewing more abhorrent sex acts. That’s what is happening in this phase of judgment, the desire for sexual immorality is so intense it starts manifesting as homosexuality and even transgenderism. God finds all sexual immorality evil but homosexuality completely breaks every aspect of His design for human sexuality and reproduction.

Judgment Phase #3

In the final phase, we see that those under this judgment keep rejecting the Lord Jesus. There is no remorse and therefore God turns them over even further into a mindset that is totally corrupt. Out of them flows every kind of evil and they are unable to make decisions that are morally correct, even for themselves. Beyond that the desires to participate in such wickedness is not only at maximum strength, they now become encouragers and promoters of these immoral lifestyles and wicked behaviors. Showing great pride in their own sin and showering others with pride for also committing those sins.

What This Judgment of God Looks Like

History has shown us what this judgment looks like and where it leads. One needs only to read and study the Old Testament accounts of Israel to see this in action and its ultimate end, Isaiah 3 being a sort of blueprint displaying that God’s judgment brings with it, wicked and unstable leaders over a nation. We can also look to the Biblical accounts of Genesis 6 and Genesis 19 for more examples and to the history books to look at empires like the Roman empire and it’s implosion from internal moral decay.

While the prophecy written in Isaiah 3, promised coming judgment to Jerusalem and Judah at the hands of the Babylonians (600's BC), they bear a shocking resemblance to what we’re seeing in the United States and other nations of the world today. Here are a few stand out verses:

As more and more people distance themselves from Jesus, their nation becomes saturated with a lack of the true moral compass of God. The number of those with a corrupt mind grows, and they influence society at a greater amount. If Christians don’t push back with greater measure, then over time society will succumb to this wickedness, resulting in God’s judgment. If left uncorrected the fall of that nation will ultimately take place.

So How Is This Related To The USA?

Let’s take a look at some key examples for the United States; a country which was founded on Biblical principles, who’s Constitution draws its every inspiration from the pages of God’s Word. The colonists who came to the Americas were estimated to be around 98% Christian (source), yet today a Barna poll published in early 2020 shows just 6% of respondents in the U.S. have a Biblical worldview (source), meaning they take the Bible at full measure, as being God’s Word and without error.

Here’s what the last sixty or so years of morality in the United States has looked like:

• 1962: The U.S. Supreme Court rules to remove prayer from schools (source)
• Mid-1960’s: Drug culture became mainstream and the sexual revolution was in full momentum through to the early 1980’s, both having a lasting, harmful effect on those involved and on society
• 1973: Abortion was legalized by the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of Roe v. Wade. As of 2021 an estimated ~62M babies have been aborted in the U.S. alone since then, and a staggering 1.6B worldwide since 1980. As of 2021 the Biden administration has increased tax-payer funding for abortion and some in the administration has expressed their support for abortion up to the moment of birth (source)
• 1980: The U.S. Supreme Court rules it’s unconstitutional to have the Ten Commandments hanging in public shcools (source)
• 1980’s: The call for the normalization of homosexuality in society started to take hold, which continued to increase in the 1990’s and to this day finding mainstream support in the 2010’s, with legalized gay marriage (source)
• 1999: We witnessed what was at the time among the worst school shooting in history, from then to 2021 there have been over 300 more school shootings, many other mass shootings and daily voilence that plagues the streets of major cities (source, source, source)
• 2000’s: The growth of the internet pushed pornography from relegated adult sections of book stores to become a major influencer of culture and a driver of sexual addiction, lust and the greater acceptance of sexually immoral behavior. And, in addition, has become a profiting mechanism for sex trafficking (source)
• 2010’s: We saw the beginning of a huge push for transgenderism to become mainstream. Issues like gender dysphoria, once considered a mental illness, are now embraced at the highest level of society and government. The Biden administration is working to force doctors to perform gender reassignment procedures regardless of beliefs and morals (source)
• Late 2010’s into 2020’s: Children’s movies and cartoons are showcasing and promoting homosexual and transgender lifestyles to children as young as preschool age. There is a very vocal push by a minority of people in power to let children make irreversible decisions about their gender, regardless of parental consent (source)
• 2010’s into 2020’s: Under the Obama administration and now again under Biden the U.S. proudly flies the LGBT flag outside of embassies around the world aligning the U.S. with sexual sin (source)
• 2020: Political leaders and the Western media, especially in the U.S. played a large role in creating increased racial tension and division by means of deception and race-baiting tactics (source)
• 2020: We have cities in the U.S. defunding police departments and calls to reduce jail-able offenses and to close prisons. Even some state governors attempting to release thousands of repeat, violent felons to “improve prison safety” (source)
• 2020: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the world’s 10 richest people (8 of them from the USA) gained \$450B in new wealth while millions are suffering from the effects of the lock down on the economy and millions more have reached poverty level (source)
• 2020: The U.S. presidential election had such obvious anomalies, it’s led to tens millions of people, if not more, being convinced it was corrupted and stolen (source)
• 2020: The Biblically defined family structure, or often referred to as the "nuclear family" (a family with a father and mother present), is under great attack and has been for decades. Roughly 33% or ~24.7M children in the U.S. live in fatherless homes (source)
• 2020: Once illegal hardcore drugs have been legalized in Oregon, with 36 states offering legal medical use of marijuana and 15 states allowing fully legal use for any purpose (source, source)
• 2020 and beyond: Free speech is under attack by big tech and the social media giants who are actively censoring the posts and suspending the accounts of those who do not share an opinion that fits the media narrative (source)
• 2020 and 2021: Religious freedom, a staple of our Constitution is under the worst attack in all of American history with several state governments punishing churches for being open during the pandemic, while allowing people to riot in the streets for months and destroy businesses and public property to the tune of billions of dollars in damage. Beyond that there are bills in congress which aim to reduce the first amendment rights of religious freedom when in contention with LGBT ideals (source)
• 2021: Previously dismissed as a "conspiracy theory" only a couple years prior, it was revealed that the University of Pittsburgh has had ties with Planned Parenthood for the trafficking of aborted baby parts, the news that came out of this was horrific and showed NIH funding for such evil acts. • 2021: The Biden administration hastily pulls troops out of Afghanistan, without first taking American civilians and Afghan allies, showing complete disregard for innocent life. Leaving tens of thousands stranded and in danger of torture and death at the hands of the Taliban and ISIS K. Not to mention, leaving a treasure trove of weapons and billions in cash. (source)
• 2021/2022: The CARES Act passed into law March 2021, paved the way for hospitals to be paid large sums of money for following strict Covid-19 treatment protocols, protocols that now seem to be killing people, rather than treating them, as many testimonies have come out from people who have lost loved ones unnecessarily because of this. • 2022: Leaked documents, which appear to be real at the time of this update, prove even further that high-ranking officials in the U.S. government have been lying to the American people, the U.S. Congress and the world about Covid-19’s origins and early treatment options. This has likely lead to an untold number of deaths which may have been prevented by such treatment. (source)
• 2022: The government of the state of California is making plans to turn their state into the leading destination for abortion, even offering to pay travel and missed worked expenses for women willing to kill their unborn child. (source)

This is just a small list, I couldn’t possibly list everything here. But a pattern reveals itself as we look at these events. The more the country moves away from God, the more prominent and egregious the sins become in our society and the more wicked our nation’s leadership becomes. This should alarm everyone, especially those of us who love the Lord Jesus. The USA, the greater Western world and the world as a whole is distancing itself from the True Living God at greater speed and as a result evil and demonic forces are taking hold in our countries.

Focusing on the US alone, I believe it is extremely likely that this nation is under God’s judgment. Based on current events, it certainly seems as if His protection and blessing has been removed from this nation as a whole. All three phases of His judgment are showing themselves very clearly in our society. While there are still God-fearing Christians in this nation, collectively, we’re a society which now promotes and is proud of things like abortion, greed, materialism and sexual immorality. I’d say our society is filled with a majority of people who are seeking spiritualism and joy in everything but Jesus. It can be said of the USA what was said about ancient Israel of the time in Judges 21:25:

The USA was founded primarily by Christians seeking to get away from religious oppression in order to worship Jesus freely. We’re a nation established under Biblical guidance, with Jesus at the core. There has been no other examples of blessing and freedom, outside of Biblical Israel, and at such a grand scale, then what the USA has received over the few centuries its been around. But this nation has fallen away, generation by generation and now as a nation we do not serve God as our King, but instead have turned to worshiping whatever desires are within the heart. Wicked leaders keep rising up in the U.S., chipping away at our God-given freedoms as the nation falls deeper into God’s judgment. Where we end up only God knows, for if we continue as we are this nation will surely fall. Whether or not that is a part of the world’s march toward the 7-year Tribulation period, remains to be seen.

But for us followers of Jesus, we are called to stand up and fight for righteousness to the end, regardless if the battle looks winnable. We must be the salt and light which Jesus commands us to be to this world, to be righteous leaders and intercessors for our nation. Our main mission has been and still is to share the Gospel of Jesus with everyone around us. Time is too short to sit around and watch what is becoming of this once great nation. We must turn back to Jesus, perhaps in our intercession and sincere desire to turn back to God, He will grant this nation yet another revival for whatever time remains, in order to harvest more souls for Him; or this might be part of the events leading up to the end of this age. Regardless we’re to march forward in the light of Christ.

All Hope Lies In Jesus

The problems of the USA and the world as a whole will not fully go away and in fact will only get worse overall until Jesus has returned to establish His Kingdom. So until then, no scientist, philosopher, politician or any person will be able to offer solutions that end all of this evil and unrest.
