Why We Can’t Compromise
Day 1
Soul Search
Have I made compromises in my walk with Jesus, so that I could avoid trouble from people?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me to strengthen my heart and my mind in Your ways. To overcome any pressure that I may face to conform to things that I know are wrong and against You, because You’ve said that they are and You are the final decision on such matters. Wash me clean of my compromise and set me on fire for You and Your Word. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen
Day 2
Commentary
Watch out what you might be compromising in. Maybe you’re submitting to the pronouns craze at work, not wanting to stand out as someone going against the grain. Maybe you’re celebrating your loved one’s immoral lifestyle because you don’t want to offend them. Remember that those who please people cannot please God.
In America alone, we can see the trend over the last many decades, where Christians and many churches around the country have remained silent on major cultural issues and even compromised on things like LGBTQ, gender roles in the church, and other sins. And now, how many of these once-great churches are now mere skeletons of what they once were? Moral compromise is a disease that will eat away over time until there is nothing left that resembles what was there prior. God’s Word is the medicine for such a disease.
Soul Search
Am I helping to push back against this ungodly compromise?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I ask for Your discernment in all things. By Your Holy Spirit, may I be made wise in Your ways and able to avoid compromising on Your Truth in any way. In Your precious name, I pray. Amen
Day 3
Commentary
Daniel knew that King Nebuchadnezzar’s food was sacrificed to idols. When placed in the situation that Daniel was in, he could’ve dishonored the Lord and compromised in doing what he knew was wrong, out of fear or to “go along to get along”, or he could honor the Lord by not submitting to the request. I’m sure there was anxiety about how the chief eunuch would respond and more so Nebuchadnezzar. But Daniel did as he should’ve and the Lord blessed him for it.
When you’re faced with situations that demand moral compromise, do you give in or stand tall? Are you afraid that God can’t ease the situation in your obedience to Him or take care of you if you do suffer loss because you chose to stand with Jesus? Stay in obedience to the Lord and watch how He works in those situations!
Soul Search
Have I experienced blessing when I’ve pushed back against ungodly demands?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please forgive me for all the times that I have wrongly compromised. Build me up, oh Lord, so that I respond more like Daniel. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen
Day 4
Commentary
As followers of Christ, we are the salt and light of this world. Salt is a preserver and a flavor enhancer. Through us, the Holy Spirit is preserving God’s morals on this earth. By our Christ-driven love and the Gospel message, we can offer “good flavor” to a person who is struggling with the bitterness of sin and this world.
This isn’t a choice but a requirement for the believer. Affirmation of sin, “going along to get along”, adhering out of fear, are all things that take away our saltiness and dim our light. As hard as it can be, we must set aside any worry about our own image and must carefully focus on how we’re presenting Jesus to this world.
For when we compromise, we allow sexual immorality to go unchecked, we allow abuse to go on, we allow fear to overwhelm, we allow children to continue to be victimized, and so on. This world is near the brink of a flood of evil, like it has never seen. Jesus has you here at this time for a purpose; you were made for a time such as this. Do you want to be the one who cowers away from the difficult situations or the one who shines the light of Christ into them?
Soul Search
Am I being as salty and bright as I can be for Jesus?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, make me bold for You, so bold that I am a blessing to all who encounter me, not because of me, but because of what You’re doing in and through me. To You be all the glory. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen
Day 5
Commentary
Many evils have taken place on this Earth throughout time. But it’s been the preserving influence of Jesus’ true Church, by way of the Holy Spirit, in these last 2,000 years, who have held back the dam of evil from fully breaking open. Whenever you speak out, push back against, call out any evil, you are holding back what is eventually going to flood this world for a short time.
When Jesus comes to take His Church home, no longer will we be here to hold back the flood of evil. Antichrist will take power for a time, and God’s wrath will shower the wicked. But until then, you and I are to be living holy, not moving to the right or the left, but to stay on track, never compromising, but always standing up for God’s moral standards, to shine the light of Truth and hope into this world, no matter the personal cost.
Soul Search
Am I calling out and working against all the evil that I see?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, may Your Spirit do whatever He needs to do through me. I want to be an active part of this restraining effort until You bring me home by rapture or rupture. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen
Commentary
Our culture pushes the acceptance of wickedness and the compromising of morals at a level I’ve not seen thus far in my lifetime. Many, who claim to be wise, not only live to fulfill their own flesh but push, coerce, and berate those who don’t go along with it. There is a cultural pressure to just accept all things and not speak against any of it. Because of this, there is often a desire to just “go along to get along.” Many Christians don’t want to deal with the confrontation or persecution.
But when you’re compromising your adherence to God’s moral standards, then you’re making a huge error. One that not only weakens your walk with Christ but sets an improper example of Jesus to the world. Essentially, you misrepresent the Lord as you allow the fear of man to overcome your fear of God. That, my friend, is a dangerous line to walk.
