Trust In The Lord All Your Days

Day 1

1My son, don’t forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commands;2for they will bring you many days, a full life, and well-being.3Never let loyalty and faithfulness leave you. Tie them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart.4Then you will find favor and high regard with God and people.
PROVERBS 3:1-4 (CSB)

Commentary

This is written by a father to his son, Solomon to his son, yet it’s more than that, God to us. It’s not Solomon’s own teaching or his own commands, but rather those of God; His teaching and His Law.

God’s commands are not meant to be a burden to those who love Him, but they are a protection for us. To live in God’s ways means to avoid the pitfalls and traps that our sin brings. To be what God has created us to be, for His glory.

Loyalty and faithfulness are so important that Solomon says to tie them around your neck. What’s more important to your body than your head? You certainly need your neck if you want to continue to live. So it’s a way of describing just how important something is, that you’d tie it around your neck for safe keeping.

When you live your life in faithfulness to God, He won’t only show you His favor in amazing ways, but those around you will take notice. Living like Jesus brings out the best in us, the goodness of Jesus that’s been placed inside. Even though many won’t understand why you are the way you are, they like what they see, the light of Jesus, which shines through the believer who is walking strong with Him.

How has my loyalty to God produced favor in my life?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You are so good to me! Even when I am not faithful, You are. You want nothing but good for me, and You’ve given me the instructions for how to live in Your goodness and how to reveal it to others. Thank You, Lord! In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen

Day 2

5Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding;6in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight.
PROVERBS 3:5-6 (CSB)

Commentary

We all have a tendency to do things our own way, especially when we’re in a tough situation. We immediately think of a plan. However, wouldn’t we be better off running to God first?

If you’re placing your total trust in Him, you won’t need to worry about how, what, or when, because He will help you through, in His perfect way and in His perfect time.

Life is too cumbersome to be trying to navigate it alone, especially when you have Jesus to carry the load on your behalf. If you’re struggling today with releasing everything, and I mean everything to Him, get to a quiet place and talk to Him. Tell Him it’s all His and ask Him to guide you through. He won’t leave you hanging or leave you unequipped.

8Taste and see that the LORD is good. How happy is the person who takes refuge in him!
PSALMS 34:8 (CSB)

What have I not been letting go of that is chipping away at me?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You’ve said that Your yoke is easy and Your burden is light. I know that I too often make things more difficult on myself because I am not taking up Your yoke as I should. I release it all to You, my entire life and all that is a part of it. Lead me, O Lord, in Your ways and no longer in my own. I love You so much because You have first loved me. In Your mighty and wonderful name, I pray. Amen

Day 3

7Don’t be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and turn away from evil.8This will be healing for your body and strengthening for your bones.
PROVERBS 3:7-8 (CSB)

Commentary

If you’ve been a follower of Jesus for a bit of time, you’ve likely stumbled at least a few times in your walk. We let our own wisdom lead us into trouble, along with our lack of self-control.

I’m sure you’ve noticed that when you’re struggling with sin, you feel weakened. Depending on your sin, it may noticeably weaken your physical body, but no matter the sin, it will for sure weaken your walk with Jesus.

In that weakness, your witness for Jesus is dimmer, and you are miserable. Perhaps you’ve lived it too many times before.

But the wisdom of these passages affirms what we know by faith; that when we turn away from the evil in our lives, God will bring healing to us in all ways that He deems fit. Getting back on track with Jesus will breathe new life into you!

Am I struggling with sin today?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, if I am struggling today with my sin, which so easily ensnares me, then Father, help me to overcome. I don’t want to walk in this weakened state, but to be once again strong in my walk with You. I repent of my sin and ask for Your healing. Thank You, Father. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen

Day 4

9Honor the LORD with your possessions and with the first produce of your entire harvest;10then your barns will be completely filled, and your vats will overflow with new wine.
PROVERBS 3:9-10 (CSB)

Commentary

Reality is, all that we own is being lent to us by God; He owns it all. So when you choose to honor Him with what He has blessed you with, it will not go unnoticed by Him.

Taking what He has given you and using it to further God‘s will is yet another way to trust Him. Especially if you’re giving God the first and best of what you have.

Aside from tithing and helping others with your money and resources, consider how you spend your money and use your resources. You could tithe a large sum, but then dishonor God by spending money on ungodly things or using your possessions for ungodly behavior. It’s something to think about and pray about. Because as you honor Him first, He will bless you in ways that will always amaze you.

How am I trusting and honoring God with my limited resources?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for what You have blessed me with. Give me a heart of such love for You and others that I am willing to use what You’ve given me as a blessing. May I not become too selfish or a hoarder, out of fear that I won’t have enough. You are my Provider! In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen

Day 5

11Do not despise the LORD’s instruction, my son, and do not loathe his discipline;12for the LORD disciplines the one he loves, just as a father disciplines the son in whom he delights.
PROVERBS 3:11-12 (CSB)

Commentary

Maybe your plans didn’t align with God’s plans, and He took corrective action in your life. If you’ve been a follower of Jesus for some time, this is probably something you’ve experienced. Perhaps you’re experiencing that now.

This is one of the toughest aspects of the Christian life, trusting God so much that you’re at peace no matter what He does or where He takes you. We love to make plans, and some of us are very stuck in our ways. But there will be times when the Lord is trying to wrestle you out of that. Ultimately, He will win that wrestling match, so it’s easier to trust Him and live in His peace, knowing that what He has planned for you will be for your good and His glory.

9A person’s heart plans his way, but the LORD determines his steps.
PROVERBS 16:9 (CSB)

Fully trusting God is to trust Him in all areas of life, from your well-being, finances, relationships — to the work He is doing in your life. There is no better place to be than in obedience to the Lord, setting up your life under His wing.

Soul Search

Do I cause myself undue stress and worry because I’m not trusting God completely?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, break down these walls in my life that I’ve built around me. Encourage me, strengthen me, and equip me to live the life You want me to live, for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen
