The Eternal Word
Day 1
Soul Search
Am I allowing Jesus to be Lord over my life?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, not only did You create me in Your image, but You even came and died for me, so that I could live and know You. No one would do that, except the only true and living God, You. Thank You for giving me life and giving me life in abundance through Your shed blood. In Your wonderful and mighty name, I pray. Amen
Day 2
Commentary
Jesus Is the Light of Life
Jesus is the reason that there is any good in this world. The life you and I have is tied directly to Him. Whether or not you’re a believer or unbeliever, Jesus is the owner and originator of you.
Because this world is fallen, darkness is everywhere, but Jesus’ light overcomes all darkness. It’s because of that, which you and I can be born into this world to loving parents, and experience goodness throughout our lives. Though the evil of darkness can brutally affect our lives, every good thing is from our Lord.
Without Him, there would not be any light to overcome the darkness; creation would have no goodness in it. Jesus is that Light which shines upon creation and the very souls of mankind. Every breath, every heartbeat, everything you do, you are able to do because of Him.
Soul Search
Am I always thanking Jesus for the good things in my life?
Prayer
Lord, without You we wouldn’t even know what good is. In my own life, You have blessed me beyond measure and displayed Your goodness to me time and time again. Thank You for being the Light of my life, the One who holds my very existence in Your hands. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen
Day 3
Commentary
Jesus Is the Only Way to Heaven
As you know, Jesus came down to His creation in order to reconcile us to Himself. I can’t even begin to imagine what that must’ve been like for those alive at that time in history. We do know that, much like today, there were many who had no clue, so spiritually blind they could not see God standing in front of them. Yet there were some who could see clearly because God had opened their eyes to Him. Just like today, we who know our Lord have had our eyes, ears, and most importantly, our hearts opened to Him — by Him.
Take notice of verses 12 and 13, for anyone who accepts Jesus as their risen Savior, we get to become children of God. This is very different from how this blinded world sees it. They like to say “we’re all children of God”, but that’s not what Scripture teaches. It’s only those who have been born of God, or “born-again”, who are children of the Most High.
That narrows the gate down quite a bit, doesn’t it? And Jesus taught us exactly that.
Soul Search
In a world filled with “cultural Christianity” and “many paths to Heaven”, am I sharing the Truth with those around me, to let them know that one must be born-again in Christ Jesus to truly see God?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You for my salvation in Jesus. I pray for those in my life and around me who have not yet accepted Your gift. Use me as You see fit to continue to plant and water that seed, and may You increase the growth in their hearts toward You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen
Day 4
Commentary
Jesus Brings Grace & Truth
John has established already that Jesus is 100% God (His Spirit) and 100% man (His flesh). John states that God literally became human flesh and dwelt among His creation, called the Son of God.
God’s plan has always been to redeem His creation. To bring fallen mankind back to Him. Everything in history prior to Jesus’ entrance into this world was given to point people to God and His plan of salvation. The history from Passover to the Law of Moses to the Prophets and the entirety of Scripture points to Jesus.
In Jesus alone, we can find God’s grace, since being God Himself, He possesses that grace. Not through Mary, not through Moses, not through any of the world religions, nor anything else, but in Christ Jesus alone, we find forgiveness for our sins and eternal life. Not only that, Jesus is the spirit of prophecy, and He was not only the beginning but is also the end. Everything that has been created, including you and me, our existence begins and ends with Jesus.
For those of us who know Him, we will live on in eternity with Him, but for those who reject Him, they will live eternally apart from Him, yet they will know exactly who He is and bow down to Him.
Soul Search
Am I walking every day in God’s Truth?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, without You, I am nothing, just a sinner who can do no good. But with You, I am forgiven, loved, made new, and adopted into Your family. I can remember my life prior to knowing You, and I don’t ever want to live like that again. Thank You for rescuing me from myself. I love You, Lord! In Your name, I pray. Amen
Day 5
Commentary
Jesus Is the Revelation of God
Since God is spirit, we cannot see Him physically. As sinners, we could not even stand in His presence if we wanted to. So He came to us. John tells us plainly that Jesus has revealed the Father to us. All of the wondrous works, love, grace, truth, mercy, all things that Jesus displayed while on Earth, were a direct revealing of the Father.
The writer of Hebrews reiterates what John wrote, stating that Jesus is an exact reflection of the Father. Everything Jesus did was aligned perfectly with the will of Father God.
We can understand that by coming to Jesus, we are coming directly to God. No longer does that rift of sin keep us apart, but through Christ Jesus, we are reconciled to our Maker — the Lover of our souls.
As believers in Jesus, we can walk tall and confident knowing that He has us in His hands and is doing a good work in each of us. We don’t ever need to bend to the darkness of this world, to the fears or anxieties, because we have God with us.
Soul Search
Do I have a good relationship with Jesus?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, go before me today and equip me to do Your will. May I follow immediately behind You, living in Your full revelation, a life reflecting of my Savior. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen
Commentary
The Gospel of John was written to demonstrate the divinity of Jesus. In this first section of chapter 1, we’re treated to a portion of Scripture that is densely packed with monumentally important truths about our Lord. In this study, we’ll go through 5 truths that the apostle John, a Holy Spirit-filled eyewitness to Jesus in the flesh, revealed about Jesus.
Jesus Is the Creator of All Things
John calls Jesus the Word, in Greek it is λόγος (Logos), meaning: a word uttered by a living voice; embodies a conception or idea. To put it into plain English, Jesus being “the Logos”, means Jesus is God, the very embodiment of the Father. Making Him the one who created all things and who governs all things.
This passage is in direct connection with Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning...”. Placing Jesus at the beginning of all things. This means He is not a created being, as some cults teach, but rather, He is the Creator. Jesus didn’t begin to exist at that time, but this passage infers that He has existed before time itself, being, He, Himself, the eternal Creator. John states that the Word was God, θεός (Theos) in the Greek. A word used to refer to the true God and the Godhead (Trinity).
